It’s cold outside and the pandemic is still around… Let’s stay home and get cosy!

Autumn is slowly coming in, days are shorter, it’s colder outside… and to balance this out, spending some quality time doing comforting and cosy activities is the best. I don’t know about you, but as this time of year rolls around nothing makes me happier than creating a little bubble of comfort around me. The idea of homeliness, warmth, feel-good activities makes me deeply happy. Also bearing in mind that the COVID-19 epidemic is still going around, so if we can limit the time we spend in public spaces, it’s even better.

I have put together this list of things you can do to spend fulfilled and happy days, at home, on your own or with company. Let’s get aaall the cosy feels!

🏡 Create a safe, cosy space you will want to spend time in

Nothing new here: we all now that autumn and winter are times when it feels good to be comfy, cosy and safe at home in a space that makes us happy. Even more so than in the summer, because we tend to spend more time inside. You could easily spend a couple afternoons decorating your home, to the tune of uplifting or seasonal music! It’s time to put a nice, soft throw on your bed for the colder days, light a candle or two (if they are soy candles, even better for the quality of the air in the room), maybe get some fresh flowers or a plant to give some more life to your home. As the days are getting shorter and darker, I always recommend putting more lights and fairy lights around. They add a really cosy touch to any room and you can find some plain designs if you’re not into the cliché Pinterest-home look.

🍳 Cook or bake something good

It’s fun to cook all year around, but it seems like we tend to be more indulgent in the colder months. It’s time to find your favourite sweet (and savoury) recipes and turn your meals into special moments. Here are some cool recipes to try out:

Fran’s ultimate pumpkin pie recipe!

Anna’s festive recipes with lots of winter veggies & a chocolate dessert!

Sheperd’s pie, my boyfriend’s favourite dish!

Indulgent and easy mac&cheese

A delicious veggie pasta bake

My own cinnamon hot chocolate recipe!

📽️ Watch a film or show that reminds you of your childhood

We all have our favourite shows and films. But to bring in that sense of safety and cosiness even more, I advise you to watch those that remind you of your childhood or younger years. For me, the Narnia and the Harry Potter films always do it as I discovered them as a child and they will always have this special place in my heart. From what I’ve heard from others, it would be seasonal films you used to watch (Halloween films or Christmas films) or shows that you know by heart, like Friends or Gossip Girl. Anything that will make you smile, remember good times and bring this feeling of familiarity and safety to perk up your mood. As France has just started its second lockdown, I can tell you Netflix and Disney + are gonna be my best friends!

🎲 Bring back the board games!

Who doesn’t enjoy board games? This one is for you if you live with other people at home. You can easily spend a long rainy evening playing board games, sipping on hot chocolate… Time goes fast when you have fun! Let me know below what your favourite board game is. As for me I love a good Monopoly or Cluedo game! If you live alone but want to spend an evening playing games with friends, virtual pub quizzes and other online games shared over Skype will do great too. Yay for socially-distanced fun!
