I am floating in the middle of nature. There are clouds around me, trees and bushes in the background. I am wearing a gingham print dress and white jumper. My eyes are closed.

Help soothe your anxiety with these calming tips.

I am naturally a very anxious person. I get anxious when I don’t feel safe, when I’m out of comfort zone, and also in some social situations. Many people will say the same; it seems like anxiety has become quite common in our day and age. Thus we need to help each other and find ways of dealing with stress in our daily lives.
Over time, I have found ways to ease my anxiety. Read on to know what they are and try them out for yourself if you suffer from stress too.

🧘 Stretching, yoga and meditation

This is an obvious one, but it really works. I love to stretch out and follow yoga videos right before bed. Recently, I have started listening to guided meditations as well and it has been very helpful. However, to really see a change in your feelings, you have to make a habit of practicing yoga and meditation – every evening before bed, or every morning when you wake up. Yoga with Adriene and Yoga with Kassandra do my favourite stretching videos: they’re easy to follow and have various levels/lengths of video available.
In the morning and evening, you can also listen to affirmations meditation videos. Repeat the affirmations aloud can really help alleviate your stress and improve your mood.

✍️ Use an adult colouring book

No, colouring isn’t just for kids! For a few years now adult colouring books have been a thing, and they’re actually more popular than one would think. I find that spending some time colouring in the beautiful illustrations in the mornings gives me a sense of peace and accomplishment – because it’s just so satisfying to follow the black lines as we colour and see the drawings come to life. There are many many themes in the world of adult colouring books – animals, landscapes, nature, seasonal… The possibilities are endless. You can find a great choice of adult colouring books on Book Depository. A colouring book will last you quite a while, considering that the illustrations are intricate and take some time to finish. I’ve had my Secret Garden by Johanna Basford colouring book for 4+ years and still haven’t finished it. A great investment!

🎵 Ambient sounds videos

When I work or read, I love putting some ambient sounds videos. They help me immerse truly in a calming atmosphere. There are a ton of videos like these on YouTube, for every need and season. In the spring and summer you can listen to nature sounds and birds. In the autumn, I love jazz music and café sounds, or rainy sounds videos. In the winter, I listen to Christmas instrumental music with the crinkling sound of fire in the background.
There are even dreamy ambient sounds videos with cottage garden sounds, English tearoom sounds… one of my favourites to listen to is this Italian village ambience sounds with nature sounds, bells ringings… Takes you into a whole new world!

🗒️ Putting off my to-do list

When I feel overwhelmed because of stress, I need to take time out. No matter how long my to-do list is! Usually when we are stressed, keeping on top of things is hard. So why don’t we stop for a moment and take the break we need? The culture of productivity wants you to stay on track all the time, but we are only human. Looking after ourselves is not a failure. So whenever you feel anxious, make sure you listen to your mind and body telling you to take a step back. Go out for a walk, do a meditation, read a book, watch an episode of your favourite show… You will get back to business when you feel better. Your anxiety is temporary and you will soon feel soothed and content again.
