A guide to Montenegro's coastal towns 🇲🇪🌊

Montenegro is a real gem and its coast is full of charming little towns and beaches.
Here's a full list of the towns we visited and what you can expect there!

• Herceg Novi: this town has wonderful cafes and a relaxed atmosphere, as well as the beautiful Savina Monastery. 🕊️
• Perast: named the town of Venitian palaces, Perast is great for a quiet stroll around however I was disappointed as it is very hyped up on travel blogs and I found it lacking in atmosphere. 😕
• Kotor: the coast's most beautiful town, where you should hike up the Ladder of Kotor for fantastic views and befriend some cute cats 🐈
• Budva: an affordable town with a historical old town but also lots of restaurants, bars and a great beach ⛱️
• Sveti Stefan: a picturesque fisherman's village with amazing views and a pink beach 🌊
• Petrovac na Moru: great for a lunch by the sea and a walk around the Rezevići pedestrian coastal path 🚶‍♀️
• Bar: check out the magnificent Orthodox church of St Jovan Vladimir and the old town on the hills ⛪

The coast of Montenegro is full of stray cats. Kotor, especially, has a seriously impressive population. In most places, the cats are fed in the streets and in Kotor, signs reminded people that the cats are looked after. ❤️

As a big cat lover, you can imagine this was as close to paradise as it could get 😂

How to climb the Ladder of Kotor, Montenegro 🇲🇪

When visiting Kotor, you can either go up the Kotor Fortress - currently a 15€ entry fee! - or you can walk up the Ladder of Kotor, which is nearby, for free.
We went for the Ladder of Kotor and didn't regret it! You get rewarded with great views, lush nature and fascinating ruins. 😍

📍The start of the path is marked on Google Maps as "start of the Ladder of Kotor".
💪 It's a medium difficulty hike, you do need comfy shoes to walk on the slippery rocks. Bring water with you also, especially in the summer.
🕒 Going all the way to the top will take you a couple hours of uphill walk. We stopped at the Cheese Shop (as marked on Google Maps) after about an hour, and already had a gorgeous view of Kotor Bay.
🏰 As you go up, you will see the walls of the Fortress as you follow a parallel path. Don't miss Sveti Juraj, the picturesque ruins of a church.
🧀 Before you head back down, sit at the Cheese Shop, where the owner serves some strong homemade rakija - a great reward after all the effort!

Don't miss this picture-perfect spot on the coast of Montenegro 😍🇲🇪

This small peninsula, linked to the rest of the land by a pedestrian road, is one of Montenegro's most Instagrammable spots.
📍Sveti Stefan

❗Things to know:
🏖️ Sveti Stefan used to be a fisherman's village back in the day, but nowadays it is an exclusive resort which you can't access. There is a gate at the entrance of the property.
However the beach is very nice and worth spending a few hours in. The left side of the beach is pebbles, the right side is sand. I love that it's pink/reddish too!
🚗 There is a parking lot down in the town, which you have to pay for. In April it was 2€ per hour, but it might be more during high season.
🗺️ I wouldn't suggest staying in Sveti Stefan (town) as there are more convenient towns to stay in on the coast - more on that on a later feed post.
The best way to see Sveti Stefan is on a longer day trip around the coast! Stay in Sveti Stefan for a couple hours then head to nearby Petrovac na Moru.
